The challenge
Shopify tracks how much inventory is available, but the warehouse also needs to know exactly where each variant is stored. Running multiple shops adds another problem: product and stock records can drift, leaving the team to identify and reconcile discrepancies manually.
The response
I built a custom app on the Shopify API that maps variants to precise warehouse locations, compares data across multiple shops, surfaces discrepancies for reconciliation, and turns incoming orders into a location-aware picking workflow.
The outcome
Pickers can search by SKU, barcode, or location and move through orders with less guesswork. The operations team gets one place to resolve cross-shop data issues while keeping Shopify as the commerce system of record.
